HISTORY
Dorset Scrapstore was started 13 years ago at Kingston Maurward College. It has since moved to Three Lane Ends Puddletown which is the site of our main store. After building up our customer base on the west side of Dorset we decided to move into the conurbations of Bournemouth and Poole which we succeeded in doing in November 2010, in the Remploy factory at Alder Hills.

The move to Poole was very successful for us and we saw membership nearly double over the first 18 months. In May 2012 the government controversially decided to close Remploy factories across the UK and sadly this meant that Dorset Scrapstore was to be made homeless. After a frantic few months searching for an afforable premises to operate from, we were offered a fantastic space located within The Factory, Boscombe, and moved in mid-October 2012.

Our Bournemouth Grand Opening on 17th November 2012 proved to be a huge success, a record-breaking day in terms of takings and new families and groups signing up to become members. Three local Boscombe groups participated in a scrap materials Scarecrow Challenge, which was so much fun, we are currently in the process of developing to become a seasonal event called Bonkers in Boscombe!

The Factory is being refurbished with the vision to become a central arts hub within the Bournemouth area, offering hot desks for local arts-based social enterprise and screen printing facilities. It is a building with an exciting future, and located in the thriving arts community of Boscombe which is the perfect environment for us.

Dorset Scrapstore is positive that 2013 will be it's most successful year yet! In the near future we are looking to provide more Workshops and become heavily involved with lots of community art and recycling projects.

To do this we need more man-power! Please see our Volunteers page to find out ways you can get involved.
