What is a Scrapstore?
A Scrapstore collects materials donated by industry, commerce, individuals and
after sorting and some preparation (if needed), makes these materials available to the
community as a valuable, low cost resource. The community benefits not only by having
access to these materials, which would otherwise often go straight to landfill sites, but
also by improvement to the environment that follows from our waste reduction, recycling and reuse activities.
The materials include sticky backed plastic, paper, card, cardboard tubes, rope, netting, fabics and
lots more, some of which are not available from conventional sources. Membership of the Scrapstore is
open to schools, groups and individuals.
About the Dorset Scrapstore
We are based at Three Lanes End, Puddletown, at the western-most end of the village.
There is the store itself, where our materials are on display for our members to choose
from, and which includes a small shop selling proprietary arts and crafts products at very
competitive prices, and also a warehouse for our back-up stock. The Dorset Scrapstore
is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee. We have a Board of Trustees
drawn from industry, education and the voluntary sector, two part-time employees and a
wonderful set of volunteers. |
