Volunteer Secretary Trustee
Dorset Scrapstore looking for a Volunteer Secretary Trustee to join our Board of Trustees and play a key role in our continued growth.
Dorset Scrapstore, a well-loved charity with over 25 years of inspiring creativity, supporting our community, and promoting environmental sustainability, is on an exciting new journey. After recently moving into larger premises, we’re expanding our membership, developing new workshops and events, and growing our impact across Dorset.
What You’ll Do
As Secretary, you’ll ensure our governance runs smoothly by:

Taking clear, accurate minutes of meetings and distributing them promptly.

Collaborating with trustees and our Charity Business Manager to prepare agendas and reports in advance.

Supporting the charity’s strategic development.
This role is perfect for someone who enjoys organisation, has great IT skills and wants to make a real difference in their local community.

Role Description
Time commitment:
~4-8 hours a month, including meetings.
Location:
Working from home, occasional visits to Scrapstore as necessary, and attendance at Trustee Meetings.
Board Meetings:
Monthly meetings held at Dorset Scrapstore or online
Summary:
The secretary is responsible for keeping people informed about the organisation’s activities.
As a trustee, you will be responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of Dorset Scrapstore, developing its aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the constitution, legal and regulatory guidelines.
The trustees will carry out business on behalf of the trust. In your role, as a trustee, you will help to protect the wealth and assets of Dorset Scrapstore . You will be legally responsible for the assets and debts of a trust.
Responsibilities:

Taking minutes in meetings

Preparing the agenda for meetings with the chair of trustees

Informing trustees and management when and where the next meeting will take place
The ideal candidate will:

Be a competent user of IT
-
Have excellent communication and organisational skills
-
Understand and accept the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship (training provided)
Desirable Requirements:

A team-oriented approach to problem solving and to management.

An interest in artistic and creative skills, abilities and needs.

An understanding of environmental issues, especially ‘the 3 Rs’ - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
Training and Support:
We are looking for a Trustee Secretary to join and develop our small Board of Trustees. Our new Secretary will be able to develop current systems and working practices. A thorough handover of our current recording system will be given. Dorset Scrapstore will aim to provide opportunities for personal development within the role.
